Overview

While working in-house for Technologies in Education, I was approached to create Education-branded artwork that the Faculty of Education would use on all social media platforms for the entire year.

Challenges

I faced three main challenges during the production of this project:

1. Body copy and concrete conceptual direction were not provided.

2. Reformatting the artwork across all social media platforms.

3. The timeline for execution of this project was very tight — I only had a few days to complete the project (start to finish).

Solution

Since the project had such a tight deadline and required high-level execution, I decided that starting this project directly off of the computer was the best process. I jotted down a page full of potential keywords or possible taglines to steer the project in, but the only words on the page that resonated with me was "New Year" and "2018." I decided to narrow the copy into something simple and decided the main focus was going to be on the year.

I then got lost in a Spotify playlist and began experimenting with grids, layout, typography, and paper textures — all revolving around the word: 2018.

Results

What I ended up with was a customized geometric font that subtly featured educational elements. The artwork ended up transforming into a captivating, dimensional, and colorful environment that was directly inspired by the music I was listening to.

When the proof was sent off to communications, they immediately were drawn to the design and approved the direction.

Production

The artwork was formatted for cover photos on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and the U of A website.
